Frequently Asked Questions
This is a list of questions we are asked frequently. If you don't find the answers your looking for then please feel free to contact us.
How long does the treatment take?
I block off 2.5 hours for each initial treatment. I normally don't need this time, however, it means I am not rushed if I do need the time. The measuring part of the treatment can take up to an hour alone.
How long will the tattoo last?
Generally, PMU can last between 6-18 months before touch up is needed. Factors which can cause premature fading are:
- Oily skin
- Exposure to the sun
- Some medications
- Retinol or Vitamin C used in skincare
- Use of exfoliants over the area
- If post treatment care is not followed properly
Do I need a patch test?
Yes. This is to make sure you have no allergies to the products being used. This can be done at a consultation appointment or it can be posted to you with instructions on how to apply.
Will the procedure be painful?
It has some discomfort but is relatively minor. Often clients liken it to tweezing a few hairs out a time, If you're nervous about the pain you can take some paracetamol at the time of arrival. DO NOT TAKE IBUPROFEN as this may slow down healing.
Do I have to shave my brows off to have it done?
No, the blade or the needle will go in between the hairs so it isn't necessary to remove the hair.
Do I still need to wax/thread and tint by brows if I have PMU?
If you like a sharp defined brow then yes, its important to keep your brows tidy by removing hair from around then to keep them in a nice shape. This is especially important for people who had asymmetrical brows. If you prefer a fluffy or feathered brow then there may be no need to wax or thread. The brow hair will still need tinted if you like them a certain shade or to cover greys.
Do I need a touch up?
Some people require a touch up after the initial treatment. This will depend on how well you've healed after the first session. How well you heal depends on numerous factors outwith our control including:
- skin type
- skin prototype
- age
- medication
- strength of immune system
- post treatment flow
- skin tolerance to treatment
- pigment choice (The lighter the pigment the quicker it will fade)
- choice of technique etc.
After that, you can have a colour boost every 12-18 months to keep colour looking fresh.
Please note: I don't 'touch up' other artists work. This treatment would be a cover up or camouflage. Pricing will be discussed at the consultation.
